Segarini: The BobChart Vol. 2 Episode 3 – The Anti-Valentine’sDayChart
“For some, Love is in the air, and hopefully, so are her legs.” – Bartlett Salazar
For the rest of you, the BobChart is here to make you feel better. Maybe single life is not all that bad. Maybe you are better off having dinner for one at the Lonely Table. Maybe these songs will bring a smile to your lips.
The BobChart reaches out to All the Lonely People…the ones who dread this Hallmark Holiday because the only love in their lives is either a dog or a cat or a half gallon of Häagen-Dazs Atomic Chocolate Ice Cream…not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I am in love. I like being in love…but love comes with responsibilities and drama, compromises and arguments, frustration and rules and regulations that sometimes make it as much of a job as it is a joy.
…but we all know that.
Like any job, it is worth doing well…especially if you want to keep it.
Regardless of its ups and downs, love and a lasting relationship are worth the trouble. Sometimes, it takes years of missteps, bad decisions, and a failed effort or two, or three, or more, but ultimately, one hopes the light will break through the clouds and you can get it right. When two people work together to get it right, they can make something beautiful. Otherwise…the pain, the anger, and the sadness creates the kind of malaise that can spread like the measles. Some people take out a failed relationship on the next person they create a spark with, who in turn, pass it on to the next, who passes it on to the next, and so forth and so on. A vicious circle of bitterness and mistrust that is taken out on others who do not deserve that treatment, and by clinging to the pain, and anger, and frustration of a failed relationship, we can become our own worst enemies…or…we can turn to music that reminds us that we are not completely alone, that others have tread these choppy waters before us…and maybe, just maybe, we will work a little harder to make our next relationship the one that inspires the love songs that we want to live our lives to, and not the songs below….
=0=
The Beatles – Run For Your Life
They wanted to hold your hand…now they’re sitting in their car across the street from your house waiting to see if you really were out with your girlfriends tonight….
=0=
Everly Brothers – Love Hurts
Even the strongest man can be reduced to a sad little lump of self-pity by a woman half his size….
=0=
Bunkhouse Bob and the Rhythm and Blues Buckaroos – Another Hank Williams Night
Sometimes a stiff drink or nine or a fist-fight with a stranger in a bar over who is better, Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, can be the only thing that can make a man strong enough to keep going when he comes home to find his clothes on fire in the front yard. A woman can only take so much….
=0=
Dee Dee Warwick – You’re No Good
Sometimes the truth not only hurts, it’s like having a bucket of ice water thrown over you. or if you really screwed up, a bucket full of the charred remains of your 1962 Telecaster.
=0=
The Chi-lites – Have You Seen Her
A breakup can also drive you bug-nuts crazy. like seeing her face everywhere you look, or calling your date by her name, or wondering why your missing credit card was tapped out at La Senza….
=0=
Bobby Womack – If You Think You’re Lonely Now
There is a big difference between being alone and being lonely….
=0=
Bobby and Sylvia – You Broke My Heart and I Broke Your Jaw
…and the threat of bodily harm in the name of love. So very wrong, that it is impossible to believe people are this horrible until it’s too late…and some girls can throw a pretty good right hook.
=0=
Timi Yuro – Hurt
Does anyone really want to cause this much pain to another human being? How does this happen, and what could you have done to avoid doing this to someone…or having it done to you?
=0=
Cats and Dogs – Pour Me a Double (‘Cause I’m Single Again)
The ‘again’ in the title places the blame squarely at the feet of the serial offender. There is a lesson to be learned here…but so many of us have slow learning curves.
=0=
Harry Nilsson – You’re Breaking My Heart
Sometimes, after everything has been tried to fix the problem, some of us just give up, learn to sing, put together a band, and say what most people just think.
=0=
Wilson Pickett – Everybody needs someone to Love
Just remember this…and have a Happy Valentine’s Day…or half gallon of Ice Cream, and rescue a puppy or a kitty even if you are lucky and work hard enough to be a happy couple…they need love too.

Well…as I read this The Flame, by Cheap Trick is playing over my sound system. Not exactly uplifting and could be downright depressing. However….I had 34 wonderful, glorious years with my main squeeze and I am thankful everyday for that (he passed away a year ago). …the memories sustain me and although I still shed a tear or two, having love in your life is an exquisite space….never run from it — be thankful you’re either in it, had it or about to fall into it. All you singles out there…. walk down the street tomorrow and wish everyone you see a Happy Valentine’s Day. It will make them smile, make you feel pretty good and….damn it!…. I’m going to enjoy a lovely dinner for one tomorrow….at the ANTI-lonely table…. and head out to see the Julian Taylor Band at the Horseshoe. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!!
