Pat Blythe – Fabulous Fall

Well “hello”….back again after a three-week hiatus. I’ve missed you. Today’s mind dump is going to be short and sweet. Playing catch-up to all sorts of “busy-ness” that just doesn’t seem to slow down or quiet down. Summer went by in a flash (and as fast as him too) and we are now halfway through September, heat waves and all. ….and no more whinging about the heat either….snow and ice coming soon enough.

oak001_corFall is my absolute favourite time of year. The air (is usually) cooler, crisper and fresher. The brilliant yet earthy colours can warm anybody’s heart and soul. Soothing, calming, cozy…..yet exhilarating. I am a September Fall baby. Maybe that’s why I’m partial. The romantic part of me loves walks in the woods enjoying the silence and the glorious fall colours ending with cup of hot apple cider. (I watched far too many commercials) Reality check….raking all those leaves, prepping the gardens and “battening down the hatches” getting ready for winter.

A Partial List of What Fall Means to Me….

Fall = no more sweating (face it ladies, we do not glow)

Fall = comfortable clothing (yep, we can disguise anything)

Fall = comfortable sleep (no more lying spread eagle in the middle of the bed without any part of your body touching another part)

Fall = fresh start (work, school, life….for some reason I don’t associate Spring with this one)

Fall = cozy nights snuggling (and not with your Teddy Bear….okay, that one….not the stuffed one)

Fall = Thanksgiving (a time to gather together with family and friends….and yes, there’s the food too….don’t forget the pumpkin pie)

Fall = You fill in the blank….

September – Earth, Wind and Fire

The summer has been filled with festivals, clubs, concerts, meeting new people, reacquainting with long lost friends, the CNE, BBQs and really, really, really, really, ridiculously HOT and MUGGY weather. (not whinging) I will start addressing them next week. Changes are coming, updates abound and we’re almost there with two brand new websites. So, like my friend Frank Gutch Jr., who pens Tuesday’s column, today’s vignette will have to suffice for now and I will begin filling you in with a over a month’s worth of words, music and pics beginning next Wednesday.  This weekend coming includes The Rockin’ Winter Blues Series at the Rockpile (feature Fathead); two birthday gatherings and TURF. Further down the line are two album releases, another BBQ, a wedding (no not mine! What the hell were you thinking?), a new baby in the family (it’s a girl…although I much prefer the surprise), more music, another festival….and the list goes on and the busy-ness continues. Loving life!

Notable Mention….

Many, many thanks go out to good friend and fellow photographer Karl Anderson for my new and improved, updated (and apparently edgier) photos. Those of you on FB will have seen one of the shots Karl posted. Apparently my “old” head shot (although a good one) depicted a woman who looked like she had just walked off the golf course. Hmmmm……really……me, on a golf course! (she says dripping with sarcasm) My more “modern” pic at the top of this column, as well as a few more will appear on my new websites. Check out Karl at AndersonCreative on Facebook. Oh, and a bonus…. he plays drums in a band called Gene Pool, so if you get the chance…..
