Bob’s Personal Top Ten Top Ten Lists
People are fascinated by Lists. Just one more oddity we share along with the obsession we all have of being unable to stop ourselves from posting an opinion about things we know little or nothing about on Social Media, and waiting until you are in the front of the line at Burger King before deciding what you want, thereby pissing off every person behind you in line who knew what they wanted before they walked in the front door.
There is even a series of books called, “The Book of Lists that began publishing in 1977.
The Book of Lists refers to any one of a series of books compiled by David Wallechinsky, his father Irving Wallace and sister Amy Wallace. Each book contains hundreds of lists (many accompanied by textual explanations) on unusual or obscure topics, for example:
- Famous people who died during sexual intercourse
- The world’s greatest libelsuits
- People suspected of being Jack the Ripper
- Worst places to hitchhike
- People misquoted by Ronald Reagan
- Breeds of dogs which bite people the most, and the least
The first Book of Lists was published in 1977, a second volume came out in 1980 and the third appeared in 1983. Book of Lists for the 1990s was published in 1993; yet another volume, The New Book of Lists, was published in 2005. The first volume was initially controversial and banned in some libraries and parts of the United States when it was published due to, among other things, a chapter that graphically described popular sexual positions and their pros and cons. The 2005 volume was essentially “new” in name only; it was made up primarily of reprinted and updated lists selected from the first three volumes, which have gone out of print.– Wikipedia
There are dozens of other ‘List’ books out there, written by other anal-retentive obsessives like myself, who feel the minutia of life adds up to off-times profound information about its ebb and flow and the meaning of life we continually, fruitlessly, hope to understand.
My favourite of these books is Dave Marsh’s “The Book of Rock Lists (1980), which is difficult to find in a first edition these days, but abounds in reprints and sequels.
Dave, mentored by long gone long time friend, Lester Bangs, is a leading member of like-minded curmudgeons, whose somewhat brusque and dismissive statements concerning most people’s deified Rock Gods are in line with my own. Unpopular opinions of the Sacred Cows of Rock that, when mentioned out loud, will boil the blood of most Classic Rock fans and get you uninvited to listening parties consisting of pre 1980 rock bands, beer pong, and discussions about how much better music was when we were in high school and embraced music not for its quality, but for what was playing the first time we got our license, got our first car, kissed a girl, got to 2nd base, smoked a doobie, or lost our virginity. (The list is slightly different for women, but similar in content). Dave shows up a couple of times in one of the lists contained herein.
One thing about my lists. They change every few minutes depending on my mood, and are also subject to change when new information/experiences widen my vision and expand my horizon. …but as I type, these lists are accurate and honest.

Segarini’s regular columns are not responsible for hearing loss, stolen wallets, or the current ‘music’ being played on the radio
Bob “The Iceman” Segarini was in the bands The Family Tree, Roxy, The Wackers, The Dudes, and The Segarini Band and nominated for a Juno for production in 1978. He also hosted “Late Great Movies” on CITY TV, was a producer of Much Music, and an on-air personality on CHUM FM, Q107, SIRIUS Sat/Rad’s Iceberg 95, (now 85), and now publishes, edits, and writes for DBAWIS, continues to write music, make music, and record.

THE POWER OF IDEAS IS……………………..
GREATER THAN THE POWER OF MONEY
GETTING OLDER DOESN’T MEAN GETTING OLD
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS………….
NO MATCH FOR NATURAL STUPIDITY
DO YOU MAKE THINGS HAPPEN,
WATCH THINGS HAPPEN OR
WONDER WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED
YOU GET THE BEST EFFORT FROM OTHERS…
NOT BY LIGHTING A FIRE BENEATH THEM
BUT BY BUILDING A FIRE WITHIN
TO LOVE WHAT YOU DO AND FEEL THAT IT MATTERS.
HOW COULD ANYTHING BE MORE FUN?
SCIENCE FLIES US TO THE MOON.
RELIGION FLIES US INTO BUILDINGS.
THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT DAYS OF YOUR LIFE ARE
THE DAY YOU’RE BORN AND
THE DAY YOU FIND OUT WHY.
SUCCESS IS NOT FINAL,
FAILURE IS NOT FATAL;
IT IS THE COURAGE TO CONTINUE THAT COUNTS.
LIFE ISN’T ABOUT FINDING YOURSELF.
IT’S ABOUT CREATING YOURSELF.
