Bob’s Back

Hello.

How have you been?

I have been up and down like a newlywed couple on a waterbed.

I have been swamped, smothered, over-run, -whelmed, and -worked, by bugs, buds, business, bullshit, and buttheads.

I have experienced high-highs and low-lows, because Life is NOT a Highway …Life is a Rollercoaster.

Life is a Rollercoaster

SOME DEFINITIONS

WISDOM – Knowing that any plans you make can change in a heartbeat, and that a picture you see on your computer every day will be impossible to find when you need it.

SECURITY – An imaginary goal desired by everyone, but does not exist. The delusional belief that you are safe from harm, financial strife, and emotional meltdown because you have planned ahead. (See ‘Wisdom’)

DEPRESSION – What happens when you become overwhelmed by negative opinions and do not seek the opposite opinions, which are much more difficult to find because they do not count as ‘news’. If you don’t seek the light when everything appears so dark, the desire to step off a cliff can enter your thoughts. (See Wile E. Coyote)

LAUGHTER – The best medicine. Prevents crying.

SOME MUSIC

Lana Del Ray has a new album that lives up to her promise. This is the single from ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’.

Good to know – Even the folks who make questionable music have a sense of humour about themselves. A spoof of a spoof and a story song with its tongue planted firmly in your cheek.

First you take the vintage ’80s Work Out Porn utilized in this 2004 video with music based on Stevie Winwood’s Valerie and sampled here …

…and then, being totally bereft of an original thought, these folks come along and not only redoink the video Sexercize porn, they once again rob Stevie Winwood’s catalogue, all but throw the verses under the bus, and resurrect Whitney Houston’s 1990 vocal track along with her still marketable name, thanks to one of her relatives thinking this was a good idea,  and come up with this ear and eye worm I am currently having a love/hate relationship with. This does prove, however, that a GREAT song is a GREAT song no matter how you attempt to mangle/exploit.eviscerate it.

Okay. Here’s what happens when the BIG BOYS cover a classic. These are PLAYAS, Baby!

I learn more about the human condition (including mine) from well written television and movies, than I do from interacting with most people.

It’s a shame we all don’t have writing staff to give us the power to say exactly what we should (or shouldn’t), do the right (or wrong) thing, and make us all interesting enough to engage people’s attention and keep it.

SOME TELEVISION

From the man who gave us Desperate Housewives and other witty, intelligent, fluff. Marc Cherry does it again ….

This isn’t the movie. This is the first season of the series from HULU.

This also comes with a great soundtrack, mostly classics re-invented, like this one ….

Steam Punk Oz in Game of Thrones Wonderland kinda …sorta.

Prequel, reimagining, not re-boot.

…and if you think Watchmen is dark …hold on to your brain.

Before there was a Master Bruce, there was a Master Thomas.

The Nicole Kidman movie failed at the box office, but the (again) darker take of the novels The Golden Compass came from looks like it may have the budget and the look to succeed on television.

And coming in December …Mrs. Maisel gets a 3rd Season ….

SOME MOVIES

Sci-Fi ….

…and Comedy.

Are any of these movies any good?

Let’s hope so.

…And now, if you will excuse me, I must get back on the Rollercoaster and see what happens next.

Keep your powder dry and your Phasers set on Stun.

See you next Friday.

Segarini’s regular columns appear only after the devouring of a Sacrificial Pot Roast Mashed Potatoes and Gravy and a decent bottle of Pinot Grigio
