Peter’s Potpourri
Before you dig into this week’s column, I just want you to know that I appreciate everyone who has stood by me since my recent loss and have expressed their concerns. My heartfelt thanks to those of you who sent your condolences and well wishes.
Recently I went to the “indie week” launch party at The Hideout. Great music, great company. I look forward to “indie week”, as I do every year. I was sitting at a table when a man came over, told me that he had been following my struggle on Facebook, and gave me a beer. “Oh, he gave you a beer? Does that make him a hero?” I hear you say. Actually, it does. He could have ignored me, but he didn’t. He reached out with comfort. That, loyal reader, is what separates us from the apes in the trees.
I am pleased with the Canadian election results. We have all done stupid things, I’m the poster boy for that! Pleased to see that the party of hate was decimated. Let’s work together to build a better world.
Talking to Darryl Hurs at the aforementioned “indie week” launch party and he told me that they are going to provide a platform for young musicians, that they are going to give them a voice. Bravo, Darryl. I always say that the world needs more creative people. It’s coming next month, November 13-17. Great music, great people, lots of helpful seminars. Killer shows, too. Check out the show at The Bovine on November 15th. Better than anything you’d see at a “big box” venue.
I am so very pleased to see so many great bands touring, getting out there with their music, like “Crown Lands” and “Twin Flames”.There is great music being made by creative people. Get out and see it, or You tube it. In any case, celebrate it.
Cutting this one short this week, but not before I mention one of my favourite videos. Brian Shul flew SR-71s and is a good speaker. He described himself as a 12 year old. This video clip of “The L.A. Centre groundspeed check” is hilarious. I laugh every time I watch it.
See you soon.
A confirmed Cat person, Peter dabbled with being a water boy, a paper boy and an altar boy before finally settling on a career with the Canadian federal government. Once, in his youth, he ate a Dutch oven full of mashed potatoes to win a 5 cent bet with his beloved sister Mary’s boyfriend. (Of course he was much younger and a nickel went a lot farther!) He has retired to palatial “Chez Montreuil”, which he shares with his diabetic little buddy Reg the Cat. He is blessed to have his dear Lois in his life. He is not only a plastic aircraft modeller, but a proud “rivet counter”. Military aviation and live music are among other interests of his, and he tries to get out to as many shows as he can. He will be here for your enlightenment whenever the stars align. Profile photo courtesy of Pat Blythe, caricature courtesy of Peter Mossman.
