Before we head back to my 1970’s high school I wanted to congratulate my old friend Randy Lennox on his upcoming new job as President of Entertainment Production & Broadcasting at Bell Media.

Pat takes over Wednesdays for our much missed Nadia Elkharadly and joins Roxanne in bringing some badly needed Estrogen-fueled verbiage to our Hallowed Halls…and to help Roxanne keep us male hooligans from spilling beer on the carpet and hiding popcorn in the couch, and making sure we take the garbage out once in a while and occasionally bathe.
This is Pat’s first article for us. Her regular column starts next Wednesday with the 2nd part of today’s offering, and continues every Wednesday thereafter.
For more information on Pat, please check the short Bio at the bottom of this column.

(c’mon, who isn’t? It’s from “Dark Side of The Moon” for crying out loud). The album, released on March 1, 1973, made # 1 for only one week, but in total, spent 741 weeks on Billboard magazine’s album chart. Let’s put that into years shall we? “Dark Side of the Moon” remained on the charts from 1973 until 1988. If you know the song, then you’ll know that the next lyrics to the title at the top of the page are: “Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash. New car, caviar, four star daydream, think I’ll buy me a football team.”
JAIMIE VERNON – Women Are From Bay City, Men Are From Syrinx
Posted in Opinion with tags Alanis Morrisette, Carole Pope, DBAWIS, Don't Believe a Word I Say, Donny Osmond, Jaimie Vernon, Joni Mitchell, Jully Black, Lee Aaron, Maureen Leeson, music, The Curse, The Women of Rock! on July 21, 2012 by segariniThis week I stepped into a Facebook hornets nest of women commenting on a current concert photo of Tom Jones. The conversation was going along swimmingly as the ladies talked about when they’d seen him perform for the first time, the last time, how great he still sounds and what their favourite songs were. Then it happened. Someone said he was still ‘hot’. And that’s when I lost it. I dove in with a roundhouse to the solar plexis. My response to the thread is the same as it is every time I see a pop star’s picture posted and banal conversations about same. Guys talk about the music – guitar solos, drum technique, wicked harmonies, cool staging and lighting, and the show itself. The ladies, meanwhile, talk about the hotness. The tight trousers, the long, shiny hair, the puppy-dog eyes and kissable mouth. Everything but the music or the performance. And they call guys superficial? If men think with their penises and listen to music with their ears, then women think with their hearts and listen to music with their vaginas.
