Peter Painfully Learns to Look Both Ways….

I have two birthdays. My real one is December 27th. I have previously written about the tribulations of being born so close to not just Christmas, but also to a sibling’s birthday, plus New Year’s Eve. As I came of legal age, I found that I had a stated purpose for drinking alcohol on 3 out of 7 of those days, instead of just aimlessly drinking everyday, (which actually doesn’t sound like a bad course of action to follow either, come to think of it).

My second birthday is May 5th, and here’s why I celebrate on that date, every year. At least, I have celebrated since 2004.

On November 19th I will be 51 years old. I was born three days before the Kennedy assassination so that puts me in a respectable place to look at a half-century of human endeavour and simultaneous failings with some authority.

This week I went to see ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ as one of the few films I’ve had time to check out this year (‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘The Lego Movie’ and ‘Transformers: Age of Bayisms’ the others). As the trailers and teasers have been unfolding for months online I came to realize that I’ve been waiting, unknowingly, over 30 years for this movie.

Jaimie Vernon.During another life – say, 14 months ago – back when I had spare time and the ambition to write every single day I did more than crank out a biography, a book of my blogs, and two 400 page music Encyclopedias. I also wrote fiction. Or attempted to. I’m currently working on a batch of short stories in a sci-fi vein. I am also a big fan of satire – mostly British and specifically that of Douglas Adams. He wrote several of the funniest, most irreverent books about the absurdity of life on this planet in the “Hitchhiker’s Guide To the Galaxy” five-part trilogy.
