If this seems a little bit dated it is because it went missing in cyberspace last week sometime on Tuesday.

I can tell you now that Cobra Ramone rocked, Bellwoods played a great show at The Rivoli and 54.40 did a fine job in The Beach last Saturday night.

(Editor’s Note – This column was originally meant to run last week. It somehow ended up in my SPAM folder and was hidden from sight until Cam sent it to me again with the update above. Here’s the column that was originally slated to be published a week ago today.)

I’m In lunch bag let-down mode. Had too much fun in May, what with all the activities and gigs, and June has so far been one of the worst clunkers of the year, weather wise. I even apparently missed the biggest (ooh!) sports news this week when LeBron James accidentally flashed 18.5 million viewers during the NBA Finals.

At a recent jam, a bunch of the players got to talking about songs that had surprised or shocked our sensibilities, either at first listen, or upon reflection. As vocalists or musicians, we had learned the actual lyrics, not just taken the overall gist. It’s different, when you have to memorize lyrics, rather than just bop along to a current song.

Roxanne Tellier: Bad Boys/Bad Girls

january roxanneLord Farlsworth, that magnificent cougar-faced beast, has been waking me up at ever earlier hours (4:15 a.m. today … a new record!) with yowls that pierce through a sleep-sodden brain. If ignored, Lord F pounces on little Jay, my delicate flower of a girl cat. Since he outweighs her by 10 cat alarm clockpounds, and she can’t stand him, a classic cat fight, complete with Siamese screams, ensues, and I’m getting up, damnit, like it or not.

But the crazy thing about the Jay/Lord F battles is that, once physically separated, the tiny Jay will then search the house to find him. It’s a classic “good girl” love/hate relationship with a “bad boy.”

Roxanne Tellier: Every Day I Write The Book

Roxanne DBAWISSince very young, I’ve been a reader. Not just casually, as in checking out the latest Stephen King novel, or flipping through the pages of a tabloid, but a hard core, genuinely addicted, unable to live without books, reader. I’m helpless in the face of scroogeMcDuckthe printed word. My books surround me, on shelves reaching to the ceiling, in every room, on every subject. If I were a literary Scrooge McDuck, I’d be diving into a vault full of books, and rolling in vellum.

Roxanne Tellier: Summer’s Almost Gone

Posted in Opinion with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 8, 2013 by segarini

Roxanne DBAWISLooks like summer is packing up her bags and leaving us for another year. Can’t say I’ll miss her; she had quite an attitude. In fact, if this summer was a woman, I’d call her Kim Kardashian; entitled, bestowing her gifts grudgingly, smiling only for the camera, and crying at inopportune moments. (kimcrying)

Canadians yearn for hot, sunny days though brokenanklekittythe cold snows of winter – it’s what keeps us from succumbing to cabin fever and despair. I’m already dreading the weight of winter coats and boots, and praying I don’t add to the total of just how many times one person can break an ankle.
