John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940. Seventy-three long, long years ago.

But rather than again dust off all our hallowed “Imagine” and/or “In My Life” recordings in remembrance this year, let’s go right back to The Source, shall we?

Every Sixties recording artist seems to have ’em, you know:  There’s the Beach Boys’ Hite Morgan tapes, the Stones’ IBC demos, the Byrds’ notorious Jet Set sessions, and even the Velvet Underground’s attempts at becoming East Coast studio stringers for Gary Lewis and the Playboys (…just kidding about that last one) (I think).
