Last week I wrote about local bullies, and those that terrorize the citizens that elected them locally and nationally. More often than we might have thought, those elected bullies, unsated by the billions they suck from their people’s coffers, opt to extend their reign indefinitely. When they do so, they morph from being barely restrained autocratic bullies, into full-fledged, unrestrained, dictators.

When you’re a kid that is being bullied, the only thing you can really do is wait for the day that the bully graduates and finally leaves you alone.
Light Beneath the Door
I step up to the door of her lab. Three short knocks is what she wants to hear when dinner is ready. Nothing more, nothing less. Just like every other evening at this time.
I raise my fist to wrap on the metal three times and notice the light from inside the lab sneaking out from under the door to illuminate the toes of my shoes. Just as I draw back my fist, I hear from behind the barrier a loud Crackle! Buzz! Pop! and watch the light on my shoes flash from yellow to blue to white and back again.
Silence.
They say that memories are built on intense emotional events – happy, sad or frightening. I have very few in the latter category which might be why the few I have are so vivid. Of course, these incidents are always the ones involving acts of, not bravery or heroism, but good old fashioned idiocy. Unlike the current crop of social media Jackass rejects there is no visual proof of my actions…thankfully.
Bruce Springsteen’s refusal to play North Carolina because of new, drastic LGBT laws might have shocked some people, but it didn’t surprise me at all.
I had another blog prepared and ready to roll today about my favourite topic, music, but in light of the last 72 hours of clown car antics from the family of my city’s mayor, Rob Ford, I couldn’t let it go without comment.
