Last week the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame did a virtual induction of its 2020 nominees that included Whitney Houston, The Doobie Brothers, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Notorious B.I.G., and T. Rex. Typical of past years during the induction process, the public and media got their panties into a bunch over how their favourite artist has been snubbed.

Originally I wasn’t going to be producing a column today. However, feeling better than expected, at least at this particular moment, I shall attempt to put something together. Had a wee bit of surgery yesterday (Monday) and sister Chrissie is here making sure I don’t do anything I’m not supposed to…..well at least she’s trying.

We’ve been swaying in the sluice of commercial music’s fetid breeze for so long that we’ve lost the ability to appreciate the slow burn, the rolling, creeping emotional wash of songs and artists that paint outside the lines of commercial success. The post-MTV era has led us down a path of saccharine, instantly gratifying need where our senses are over-stimulated – like a million neon roadside billboards or a caffeine rush to the soul in an effort to forget we live banal or uninteresting, tedious lives.
