A plethora of entertainment abounds in the Big Smoke this summer. NXNE rolled into town on June 17 for four days of non-stop music, film and comedy. I opted for the music since a body can only be in so many places at once. A shout out and big thank you goes to Damien Nelson, FLIP Publicity & Promotions, for providing the media and photo passes. Your assistance was much appreciated. By the way, the website was awesome. Easy to maneuver around and find what you’re looking for.

Let me preface this by saying that I am by no means someone who can make or break a band, I’ve just poked around in the Canadian music industry a fair bit. I studied it in school, and I’ve worked in it in one capacity or another since 2006. So I’m not a complete fucking moron.

Nadia Elkharadly: Kids these days – A guest rant

Nadia LogoI’m lucky to have several super cool and like-minded people in my life, and as a result I have some fairly intellectually stimulating conversations on an equally fairly regular basis.  Sometimes these conversations can devolve (entertainingly so!) into some pretty epic rants.  One such instance happened quite recently.  I was talking to my dear friend Emy on Gchat while we were both taking brain breaks from work (hey, it’s necessary sometimes…a lot of the time), and the topic of band tshirts came up.  Both of us, being music lovers to the nth degree, have our share of band related tanks, tshirts and even dresses that claim places in our respective wardrobes.  One important fact to note is that the band outfits we own are inspired by bands that we actually *gasp* LIKE!
