I know it’s been more than a week since it ended, but I’ve still got North by North East on the brain. Maybe it’s because I still can’t fall asleep before the crack of dawn (which is murder on my dayjob functionality). Maybe it’s because I can’t shake my hangover shakes. Maybe it’s because I still don’t have my full voice back – but you should hear my Demi Moore impression, it’s killer! Actually, you will be able to hear it on the Bobcast very soon, but anyway. Whatever it is, I’m sad that NXNE is over and that I had to get back to reality. Reality SUCKS. So, permit me to reminisce just a little bit.

Get the coffee, advil, milk thistle and Gatorade ready, it’s music festival time in Toronto! This week brings North by North East back into our lives. That means 4am last calls, copious amounts of alcohol and terrible for you meals, and glorious, glorious live music everywhere you go! It’s become one of my favourite times of year in this city, along with CMW (despite the pitfalls I complained about back in April) and Indie Week. The city floods with visiting musicians and delegates from across Canada, the U.S. and the rest of the world. Ever concert, event or just bar wandering can turn into a network opportunity, a reunion or just a chance to get sh-tfaced with friends, new and old alike. It’s a great time to be in Toronto, and it’s a great time to be a music lover.

C’mon
Let’s all tip our trucker hats to the almost-legend that was C’mon. Ian Blurton is one of Canada’s rock’n’roll treasures and his three-piece powerhouse will play their last shows at Toronto’s Cherry Cola’s on October 20th and at The Bovine Sex Club on October 22nd. After 15 years and a sniff of success with Change Of Heart, Blurton spent three years with his next band Blurtonia before forming C’mon with drummer Randy Curnew and Nashville Pussy bassist Katie Lynn Campbell in 2003. After a myriad of Canadian tours Curnew left the band in 2006 and was replaced by Dean Dallas Bentley.
