Cam as Chip

As children and teenagers across Canada head back to school next week, we will wrap up the series of high school rock writing I attempted. In retrospect it was pretty rough. It seems we started a secondary newsletter entitled “Grinning Nihilism” where we went underground for what looks like exactly one issue. Within minutes of the initial announcement by Rolling Stone magazine the InstaFaceTwitterverse was abuzz with condolences and skepticism that it might possibly be a hoax. But after a few hours of confirmation and critical mass the news became ever too real. The King of Kool, the Dean of Dark, the Earl of Emo, had indeed died.

Roxanne DBAWISAfter writing about fall’s wonders two weeks ago, it was odd to wake up that Monday to the beginning of a week of Indian summer. Sunny and mild, the weather was perfect for the celebrities and guests swarming Toronto’s streets for TIFF. The beautiful people and their entourages swanned in and out of event venues in their little black dresses, smart cocktail gowns, and Manolo Blahnik shoes.

Roxanne“The Internet is a lot like ancient Egypt: people writing on walls and worshipping cats.” Cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, horses, hedgehogs … you name it. The supply of animal pictures seems to be limitless. And nothing can draw an “awww” out of even the most hardened grouch’s mouth quicker than the sight of a tiny, helpless, pink-mouthed baby anything. We are helpless before their innocent charms.
