Jaimie Vernon_Viletones It’s only taken 8 months but I feel comfortable back in the captain’s chair at my record label after having not done it for the past 5 years. Re-issuing old albums will continue to be my bread and butter but I will always keep supporting and promoting independent music. It’s where I started and will always have a special place in my heart. The spirit of original and new music is what drives creativity forward. Nostalgia is full of sign posts but without new music to build and cultivate new paths the road ends and the sign post will read ‘dead end’.

Jaimie Vernon_ViletonesI’ve been slowly re-imbedding myself into the Dante’s Inferno that is the current music industry with a focus on promoting good, new music [see some of my previous blogs for my recommendations] cause, let’s face it, talking about the mistakes the labels made over the last decade is like discussing that guy at Decca Records that passed on The Beatles [his name was Dick Rowe and he made up for the faux pas by later signing the Rolling Stones].

JAIMIE VERNON: IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR

Vernon_1997It’s been a really long year; one of my most productive years since about 2006 which will make it memorable in a good way rather than the last five years which I’d just as soon forget (and have taken to mentally block). My beautiful wife and I celebrated 16 years together. My son and daughter graduated middle school and high school respectively and have moved on to both high school and University in turn. I was given a great opportunity by a new Facebook friend, Todd Childerhose, to work a social media job at his company UpCountry.com – which I will forever be grateful for. I had one of my best friends in the world pay for my career retraining in the security industry.

Now that the institutional insanity of Black Friday has passed and everyone was thankful to get a discount on a Made in China television using a year’s worth of minimum wage, might I suggest some inexpensive independent music to give to everyone else as Xmas gifts? And you don’t have to stand in line or need a shotgun to do it.
