I have so much to write about I don’t know where to begin. Clubs, pubs, bars and halls, from one end of the city to the other. Late nights, early mornings, a thousand pictures, private functions, VIP soirees, opening night galas and closing festivities. It’s been a whirlwind of activity and will be impossible to cover in a single column. Lots of sharing to do….

Fall has fell, election fever has gripped Canada, the US of A is keeping warm in their tin-foil hats and bunkered down under their beds, and Toronto the Groovy is in the throes of the locally produced and fantastic Indie Week, a celebration of Indie Artists and Music, the city’s wondrous venues, and complete with a Film Fest featuring music related documentaries and Q&A’s with the people responsible for them.

Cam Skull Ring Days

I have been going to conventions and conferences all of my life. I think the first one I attended was “3 Days in March” back in the late seventies. It was at the then new Harbour Castle Hotel and run by Walt Grealis and Stan Klees from music industry magazine RPM. It slowly morphed into “The Record Conference”, run by David Farrell and his team at The Record (another music industry trade paper), and that conference is now known as Canadian Music Week.

I was shocked and deeply saddened  last week to learn of the passing of Dave “Obie” O’Brien. Most of you would not have known him as he wasn’t in the music industry (he was a tax lawyer) and unless you went to Malvern Collegiate or Neil McNeil, or perhaps played lacrosse for Beaches (we both were inaugural members in 1968) your paths likely did not cross.
