I’m missing the live music, the clubs…..but most of all the people. It’s been two years now since I’ve trolled Toronto’s club scene, traveled with the ONES show and visited the many stages of the various festivals in Ontario. I loved it all….every second of it! I met some of the most incredible people, heard some fantastic music, and was honoured to a part of a scene I had been away from for so long. I made new friends (and lost a few), learned new skills, and was gifted with the opportunity to write this column…..it was a whirlwind six years. Then Covid decided to rain on our parade. The Pandemic Interviews allowed me to stay connected to many of the musicians I met during those five years.

Warm(ish) days with cool nights are just perfect. Grape jelly made, herbs harvested, spaghetti sauce jarred (soup is next), podcast published and now it’s column time! In between all that is photo editing, cross stitching and a few telecom projects. Running around at Mariposa and Summerfolk; meeting new people and listening to new music during Canadian Music Week and Indie Week; dodging bodies, running into my friends and hearing more new music at the clubs…..I’ve missed it all. Fingers crossed we have some semblance of normal next year.

Bob Revisits Indie Week for 2019
Posted in music, Opinion, Review with tags Darryl Hurs, DBAWIS, Don't Believe a Word I Say, Indie Week, segarini on November 13, 2019 by segariniIn today’s climate, even in this era of (seemingly) instant fame via a television show, or releasing an album recorded in your mother’s kitchen before you have ever played a gig, even when your self-penned ditty gets a million hits on You Tube without so much as buying a real instrument, let alone learning how to play it, there is hope for kids who still feel the urge to roll the rock, write tunes, and spend days on end in a van that smells of wet socks and KFC.. There are still dreamers. There are still Road Warriors, still people who want to rehearse and write, and play and play, and drive all night and eat KFC out of the bucket, solely because they believe in the life, believe in the music, and believe in themselves and the dream. These kids are out of their minds just like we were.
Which brings me to Indie Week.

Pat Blythe – Suzi Kory….Indie Week….and music

I write for Fiverr and never imagined it would get as busy as it has. I’ve been writing brochures, website verbiage, package inserts, “how to” columns, etc. I’ve had to research products and learn how to “do things” and then write about them. So far, so good. It’s all on a timer….you have so many days to deliver your finished product and if you’ve agreed to revisions, they have to be done within the agreed upon time. When you receive multiple “gig” orders all due at the approximately the same time it’s a bit of a panic. So…….here I am…….late again. (sigh) Super, super short but…..this, DBAWS, is one writing “gig” I never want to give up.

Pat Blythe – VOTEing…..Indie Week…..ONE WORD on ONES…..with music

Today (I started to write this on Monday) is voting day. Today we have the privilege, the democratic right, to select who we want to represent us here in Canada and on the world stage. Voting is the only tool we have that has any kind of impact. Who we choose to guide this country for the next four years is decided today. I voted. One out of two of my sons voted. At this writing, my mom is waiting to vote. My sister will take her. But there are more who don’t vote than do. Telling….in oh so many ways.
