Good morning!! It’s Tuesday which means this must be “writing day”. It’s catch-up time once again. A myriad of events and happenings over the past few weeks this column might be longer than usual just so I can bring you all up-to-date. …..and of course all those lovely pictures (she says tongue-in-cheek). I’ll just take a minute to figure out where I left off……

Posted in Opinion with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 31, 2013 by segarini

Nadia LogoHave you ever had a song just completely change your mood?  There are some songs out there that can infuse you with energy, happiness and excitement.  Having a day where you just can’t muster the fucks to give about…well, anything?  Currently in the throes of one of those days, I decided to turn to my newly acquired Rdio account, and peruse my growing collection of tracks and playlists for a song or seven to drag me out of the hum drum existence I’d found myself in.

Shanghai Aug 2012I spent most of Sunday and Monday evening glued to the live streams of the Jay Smith Family Benefits which took place in Halifax (Sunday) and Jay’s home town of Sydney, Cape Breton Island (Monday). Nadia LogoIt’s April and another Canadian music Week has come and gone.  Cold weather, late nights, new and old friends and of course copious amounts of alcohol – it’s all behind us now.  What’s not behind us is the apparent mixed reviews and outright controversy that this year’s CMW has been bringing out in fans, artists, organizers and everyone else who participated in some way shape or form.  My idea for this column seems to have already been scooped by The TorontoistBut instead of lamenting the fact that these writers clearly didn’t drink as much or party as hard as I did and actually managed to meet a deadline, I wanted to build on and add to all the great points that were made in that article.

Nadia Elkharadly: Songs that make me…

Posted in Opinion with tags , , , , , , , , , on February 6, 2013 by segarini

Nadia LogoI seriously need a vacation.  I feel like I’ve been running flat out for weeks now, which normally is awesome but MAN am I tired.  There is so much I want to write for all you lovely DBAWISers out there but the words simply do not exist in my brain right now.  So instead, I’m going to write in music.  No, not actual musical notes, but with songs.  When I stated a blog a couple of years ago, I had a little post series I called “Songs that make me”.   Whenever I heard a song that evoked a certain feeling , whatever that may be, I would post about it.  I haven’t updated my blog in a while, but that doesn’t mean that I react any less strongly to a song.  Whether the song puts a smile on my face, brings a tear to my eye or make me want to jump the nearest attractive male specimen, here are some of the songs that have, well, made me…
