Well another Canadian Music Week is under my belt, or, elastic waist-band pants. I believe it was my 33rd. I believe it was their 33rd. Prior to being called CMW it was known as “The Record Conference”, and before that there was an annual event called “Three Days In March”. It’s hard to explain (and often remember) what exactly happens at a music industry conference and the more that you attend the wider your reach is and the more friends, acquaintances, former workers and bartenders you know.

Nadia Elkharadly: Canadian Music Week – The good, the bad and the ugly
Posted in Opinion with tags Canadian Music Week, charlotte church, DBAWIS, Don't Believe a Word I Say, Indie Artists, Indie Music, Jay Smith, mad june, Matt Mays, music, Nadia Elkharadly, Neil Dixon, Toronto on April 3, 2013 by segariniIt’s April and another Canadian music Week has come and gone. Cold weather, late nights, new and old friends and of course copious amounts of alcohol – it’s all behind us now. What’s not behind us is the apparent mixed reviews and outright controversy that this year’s CMW has been bringing out in fans, artists, organizers and everyone else who participated in some way shape or form. My idea for this column seems to have already been scooped by The Torontoist. But instead of lamenting the fact that these writers clearly didn’t drink as much or party as hard as I did and actually managed to meet a deadline, I wanted to build on and add to all the great points that were made in that article.

It is convention season as Canadian Music Week is followed by The Hot Docs Conference and then the NXNE Music + Film + Comedy + Art + Interactive. Old friends, new friends, many late nights and far too many early mornings. As we speak we are on day two or three of CMW and there are three more days beckoning as well as 4 AM closing times.
