This is my final column of 2020, a year we’d all much rather forget but will be permanently etched in our psyches forever. So on that note, I’ve decided to end on a more upbeat, festive but somewhat educational note.

If you’re reading this it probably means you’re broke and can’t afford a weekend off or you have no idea that this is Victoria Day weekend. It’s a celebration of our formerly longest reigning Monarch of the British Vampire, er, Empire (June 20, 1837 until her death January 22, 1901). Queen Elizabeth recently usurped that record by tiptoeing past Victoria which opens the door for us to one day celebrate Lizzy’s Day instead. Currently the weekend celebrates Vicky’s birth on May 24, 1819.

JAIMIE VERNON: STAMPS & COINS & ROCKS & THINGS

So much so that he always wants to share it. He loved my Encyclopedias so much he introduced me to the brain-trust at Long & McQuade Musical instruments and got me a distribution deal nationally with the company. My daughter showed an interest in recording a solo song – he offered his studio and production skills to see it through. I’m grateful he accommodated her. His biggest cheerleading is for his kids – a prouder Dad you would never meet.
