We’ve moved into February on the cold back end of January now – commemorating the 44th anniversary of the Blizzard of ’77 (uphill, both ways, with no mitts or boots or common sense). Thankfully, we still have music to listen to, and help get us through this opening lap of 2021. Hunker down with a hot cocoa, some Bailey’s, and dig the latest from the GWNtertainment action blotter.

Last week the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame did a virtual induction of its 2020 nominees that included Whitney Houston, The Doobie Brothers, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Notorious B.I.G., and T. Rex. Typical of past years during the induction process, the public and media got their panties into a bunch over how their favourite artist has been snubbed.

Regaling you with tales of chicken wire and whoopee cushions would make this a lot easier to write— nothing like fart jokes to liven up your reading— but it is Christmas season and I must put aside the slings and arrows, as humorous as they might be.
Pat Blythe: SUMMER HAS ARRIVED!!!

I do believe summer is here. Finally….and with a rather heated bang (or melt). The humidity makes my hair go crazy, like I stuck my finger in a light socket. It just sort of poofs out with no sense of decorum whatsoever. Absolutely zip in control. But I’m not just referring to the weather as the summer intro but goings on around town and the many bodies spilling in and out of the hundreds of patios across the city. However, two events in particular kept me hopping this past weekend. I haven’t partied like that in…..well, let’s not get into the details. (Oh….and for summer I’ve added a little colour to my coif….a few purpley/lavender streaks, just for shits and giggles)

My fingers seem to have a mind of their own. I have a list that I don’t seem to follow. Bits and pieces of paper with notes scribbled on them scattered all over the house. Something exciting, new, interesting or completely distracting seems to pop up and my focus is once again altered and my direction changes (squirrel!). FB is providing some fuel to this fire. Here are a few items that caught my attention.
JAIMIE VERNON – BOOM GO THE ‘80s
Posted in Opinion, Review with tags Alta Moda, Bob Rock, Bob Segarini, Bruce Fairbairn, Bullseye Records, Canadian Music, Capitol Records, cassettes, CD, compact discs, Current Records, Darryl Kromm, DBAWIS, Don't Believe a Word I Say, Drew Arnott, Infidels, Jaimie Vernon, Julian, Love Becomes Electric, Molly Johnson, Norman Orenstein, randy bachman, re-issue, remastered, Strange Advance, The Distance Between, vinyl on March 19, 2016 by segarini In a previous incarnation my label, Bullseye, was focusing on 1960s and 1970s Canadian re-issues but in the time that has elapsed since I folded the label (2010) and now, the pop culture zeitgeist has shifted. Classic Rock radio was put into suspended animation in 2014 by the major radio players (at least in Canada) and 1980s radio has picked up the ball. Oh, the 1970s is still getting a fair amount of airplay, but it’s mostly been ghettoized into bite-sized “The 70s at 7 !!!” type radio programming.
