Personally it’s been, indubitably, a year of massive, incredible change….a complete turnaround….a 360….that’s two 180’s, and I’m still spinning. It’s been jam packed full of opportunities, challenges, reconnections, new connections, bags of music, loads of dancing, early mornings, late nights, no sleep, G&T’s, club hopping, previews and reviews, outdoor patios, fast food, fine dining, ear-splitting bands, (did I mention dancing), photo shoots, video shoots and writing. Okay, deep breath, plunging in, here we go….the year in review. Really!! ….and WELCOME BACK!

Our esteemed guest columnist Jim Slotek shared a very interesting perspective on the state of blockbuster films, inspired by the Avengers release this past Friday.  He (and Robert Downey Jr.) is completely right; film going masses have been geared and steered into what they “think” they like and want.  Every summer, multi-million dollar productions are generated, and hyped for months, sometimes years ahead of time, working movie lovers into a frenzy.

It is a given this weekend that everyone wants to see The Avengers. It is, as they say, “trending” like a Geiger counter outside the Fukushima nuclear plant.

But it is more relevant to ask WHY everyone wants to see it.

I’m a sucker for a historical drama, or an action film or cleverly scripted comedy especially on a lazy Sunday afternoon when the best television can offer is mindless tripe like ‘Flip Your Spouse’, ‘ Lose Weight or Die, You Fat Fuck’ or the sermon of some ratbag preacher who’s pick-pocketing the elderly with one hand while fondling young boys with the other.
