In the middle of June 1975 my grandmother yanked me out of school so that she could give me the eye-opening experience of a lifetime – a road trip across Canada. Six days and 2,438 miles later we were putting around on the Alberta side of the Rocky Mountains.

Stan Freberg passed away on Tuesday, April 7th, 2015 in Santa Monica, California. He was 88. Despite his incredible success in the recording world (albeit in the 1950’s), radio, television and advertising (Freberg is in the Advertising Hall of Fame after all), somehow, Stan wasn’t hip enough for the TMZ generation. They’d rather report on yet another lame Kardashian/Jenner photo op, so Stan’s passing didn’t even merit a mention on their popular website or TV show, although his obituary did make the New York Times.

This week the Rock Goddess and I made the decision to dump our TV cable subscription. Since work on my Encyclopedias began in earnest in the summer of 2011 I’ve spent less time in front of the Boob Tube and almost all 
my time online – Facebook, YouTube, etc. It’s an issue of time, really. Following the release of my books I’ve been (mostly) employed and fully engaged in putting food on the table and falling asleep – often while waiting for the food to come to the table. Similarly, the Rock Goddess.
