Let’s celebrate. There is still hope. We get a chance to see them again and thank them for what they mean to the fabric of Canada. Recently we have had no warning and no chance to say thanks or goodbye, this time we do. My history with the band goes back a long way and I hope Johnny Fay, Gord Sinclair, Rob Baker, Paul Langlois and Gord Downie have a farewell tour that will go down in rock’n’roll history. Take your victory lap boys, you have earned it.  Tickets go on sale Friday June 3 and the dates are as follows:

Nadia Elkharadly: Bands I wish I could see live

Nadia LogoI definitely go to more concerts than the average person.  Some are small scale, like 25 people in a tiny bar.  Others are huge, like selling out huge sports arena huge.  Sometimes it starts to wear a little thin, the constant going out to different venues night after night, seeing band after band.  Don’t get me wrong, I still, and will always, love live music.  But as I mentioned in my last column, the excitement waxes and wanes when it comes to all the shows I go to.  But sometimes a special show comes along that really rekindles my passion for live music.  One of those such shows happened just the other day.

Cameron Carpenter: The ABC’s Of Rock’n’Roll – The Nineties

The nineties were an interesting time for professionally. Although I had worked in the A&R department at Quality Records in the early eighties I didn’t have any signing powers. The only band that I fought for were The Rockaderos and although we released a fantastic Bob Segarini produced single, “I Wanna Dance Like Fred”, outside of a little play at CFNY, nothing happened to the E.P. and we never had the chance to release a full album. If anyone has an MP3 of the song please feel free to send it to me as all I have are a few old cassettes of the band.
