Promo Shot_Twilight Zone_thumbAfter a long month of music legend deaths (which included Pinky Dauvin of Lighthouse and Richie Havens this week) and global tragedy it’s great to finally get back to listening to the new breed of musical innovation.

“KRIS + DEE “Bloom”

I have to admit that I have a music crush on this dynamic duo. They lured me in and hooked me with last year’s debut effort ‘Still Here’ – setting the tone of their thoughtful songs of solitude and introspection. On the sophomore follow-up ‘Bloom’ they explore these themes and more and add musical dynamics with the assistance of resident bass/piano/organ mandolin player Wil McGonegal plus Colin Cripps (Crash Vegas, Junkhouse), Tim Welch (National Velvet), Ron Hawkins (Lowest of the Low) and the seriously skilled drum work of Mauro Sepe and Al Cross.

JAIMIE VERNON: FEBRUARY 2013 – DISCoveries

vernon_19972There hasn’t been much new music to trumpet since the end of 2012, but the music’s starting to filter in slowly so today I’ve got four releases worth talking about.

One of the side benefits of having been behind the scenes in the music business for the last 28 years has been in watching artists and bands blossom in real time. I started Bullseye Records in 1985 and in 1986 I put the word out for acts to start sending me demos. I wasn’t sure who I would find – or even if I could ever sign them – but I wanted to see what the landscape was like…in both sizing up the competition where my own music pursuits were concerned and to see what direction music was heading overall.

JAIMIE VERNON: IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR

Vernon_1997It’s been a really long year; one of my most productive years since about 2006 which will make it memorable in a good way rather than the last five years which I’d just as soon forget (and have taken to mentally block). My beautiful wife and I celebrated 16 years together. My son and daughter graduated middle school and high school respectively and have moved on to both high school and University in turn. I was given a great opportunity by a new Facebook friend, Todd Childerhose, to work a social media job at his company UpCountry.com – which I will forever be grateful for. I had one of my best friends in the world pay for my career retraining in the security industry.
