It is the time of year when time is at a premium. With NXNE right around the corner and the full weight of the NXNE Film Festival on my shoulders I am going to take the easy way out for the next few weeks here at DBAWIS. Fortunately I am at the letters R, S, T in the next three weeks and there aren’t too many easier letters to find bands for. Quick lists for the next little while. As always please have a look or listen at what Bob magically drops in for each band. Full disclosure, I supply the words and Bob supplies the links and photos. I am surprised every Thursday at the images and videos he comes up with.

With a nod to Neil Young:  “’Live music is better’ bumper stickers should be issued!”  God knows how few of us realize what we are missing out there these days.  The bars and taverns and music listening rooms are being stocked with an amazing array of excellent artists and we are either sitting at home with our fingers up our ass or hanging out in some bar with no music beyond that hooked up to stereo speakers on walls, bitching about there being no good music.  For all of you who do that (and you know you do), I have a finger for you and you can bet which one.

The Replacements – “Color Me Obsessed”

One of the highlights for my inaugural year as the NXNE Film Festival was the discovery and screening of “Color Me Obsessed – A Film About The Replacements”.  The screening process for a film fest is very similar to the A&R process at a record company. You go through hundreds of submissions and hope to find a gem or two. I must say that the film process does takes a while longer as a lot of this suckers run 90+ minutes, and, being a martyr I watched every minute of them (rookie mistake). Much like music, most people who submit films have delusions of grandeur and absolutely no right screening most of their projects outside of their living rooms.
