We are a species of adapters. We build on what we’ve learned before (we also forget about what we’ve learned before because we’ve got the retention skills of a black Labrador retriever chasing a stick in a field of grass, but that’s a blog for another time). The greatest inventions, the greatest works of art and specifically, the greatest music has come about from nicking, stealing, re-shaping and regurgitating what our forefathers have wrought.

When I asked John (Martin) what a television producer did, I expected an answer. You know, words strung together in such a fashion as to deliver pertinent information explaining what it was a person had to do that would result in television being produced in a timely and acceptable manner. “You’ll find out”, was not an acceptable answer.

I said, “Seriously, what does a television producer do.”

I like to pride myself in having an open mind when it comes to just about everything. To paraphrase an old friend, I’ll try anything twice…just to make sure.

Having an open mind when you’re young is an investment in your future. By keeping an eye open and embracing your natural curiosity, you will find yourself learning what you like and don’t like, discover that you may want to delve deeper into some new experiences that come your way, and generally be learning as you go; what’s hot and what’s not as far as your personal opinion and interests are concerned. Eventually, you will begin to understand what floats your boat, and that, my friends, is how you develop taste.
